Type
of projects:
Whether you are looking
for solutions to improve your productivity, reduce your logistics cost or
enhance your customer service level, TAD Logistics can help you by conducting a
Diagnostic of your
warehouse operations or by focusing on specific areas including:
Warehouse audit:
The objective of the
audit is to identify opportunities for productivity improvement and cost
reduction. It requires extensive
observations on the ground of your existing operations and detailed analyses of
your level of performance before recommending the most appropriate solutions.
As an example, we have
conducted an audit for a furnishings and decoration accessories distributor
which has helped identify layout, process, system and organisation issues
subsequently tackled through specific projects.
Performance measures:
On the basis that you
improve only what you measure, TAD Logistics can help you identify, define and
establish the KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) that make sense for your
operations.
As an example, we have
established and monitored, for a chemicals company, regional logistics KPI’s
which have subsequently been used as global KPI’s. This has created the foundations for
cross-country benchmarking and helped drive better projects identification and
prioritisation translating as an example in a 80% warehouse productivity
improvement over a four-year period.
Warehouse processes
re-engineering:
TAD Logistics’ approach
consists in understanding existing processes, internal capabilities and customers’
service requirements before re-defining processes that will be more cost
efficient and service effective.
As an example, we have
re-engineered the warehouse processes of a French school
textbook publisher which together with a new picking strategy and a WMS
implementation resulted in 40% increase in picking productivity, a reduction in
the order-to-despatch lead-time from 2-8 to 1-2 days and a errors free rate
increase from 92 to 98%.
Warehouse layout
optimisation:
How great would it be
to start from scratch all over again and design a brand new warehouse when you
realise that the current layout is neither cost efficient or service
effective? But how often do you get the
green light to make this happen? TAD
Logistics can help you make the best of your existing facilities, by looking at
the size and the location of the different operations in your warehouse as well
as optimum storage modes and products slotting.
As an example, we have
reviewed the layout and products slotting of several warehouses of a Chemicals
company which have typically resulted in 10% to 20% warehouse productivity
improvement and a reduction in the order-to-despatch lead-time.
WMS selection, implementation
or enhancement:
Managing large scale
and/or complex warehouse operations definitely requires some form of WMS
(Warehouse Management System). TAD
Logistics can help you define your requirements, develop tendering documents,
support you in the selection and implementation process or just make sure that
you extract maximum value from your existing system by bridging the potential
gap between your IT department and your logistics users.
As an example, we have
co-ordinated the implementation of a new operating model and the roll-out of
SAP R/3 (Sales & Distribution module) to the fourteen Asia-Pacific
countries of a European telecommunications company which have resulted in up to
30% in delivery accuracy improvement, a reduction from 2-15 to 1-4 days in
order-to-despatch lead-time and a reduction from 47 to 15 days in Finished
Goods inventory.
People and
organisation:
You can have the best
processes and/or the best information systems, but this is worth nothing if you
do not have the right people to operate them.
TAD Logistics can help you:
-
review your organisational structure;
-
identify your training needs and potential
training providers and, in some specific cases, conduct training sessions to
improve the capabilities of your organisation.
As an example, we have
redesigned logistics – but also sales, sales administration, customer service
and administrative functions – primarily in the context of post-merger
integrations for a school textbook publisher, several hyper/supermarket chains
and a food wrapping paper manufacturer.
We have also
developed a training program for a Chemicals company – including the following
courses (i) Introduction to Supply Chain Management (ii) Logistics Strategy
(iii) Warehouse and Transportation Management (iv) Inventory Management – which
has been rolled out to about 100 Supply Chain resources across
Logistics
outsourcing:
Considering that most of
the outsourcing implementations face some problems and that a large number of
them are due to a gap between service expected and service promised, it becomes
critical to thoroughly specify your requirements and professionally evaluate
potential 3PL providers in order to avoid surprises. TAD Logistics can help you develop tendering
documents and support you through the evaluation and implementation process to
make sure you have established the right foundations to make the partnership a
successful one.
As an example, we have
developed a framework for logistics outsourcing and tendering documents which
have been used as training materials and for several tenders by
telecommunications and chemicals companies resulting in faster and more
effective tenders.
Type
of roles:
TAD Logistics’ role can
vary based on its client’s specific needs and resources availability – being
primarily as a:
Advisor – This is a
traditional consulting approach where projects are undertaken by TAD Logistics
in the areas listed above.
Mentor/Facilitator – This role is particularly of interest for
Small and Medium Enterprises which lack logistics skills but yet can not afford
to hire full-time in-house capabilities.
